As we come to the end of our journey through the Old Testament, it is worth pausing to remember where we have been. We began with God’s good creation and followed the unfolding story of His dealings with people. We saw Him call Abraham and Sarah, make covenant promises, deliver Israel from slavery, and teach His people how to live in His presence.
Along the way, we encountered courage and fear, faithfulness and failure, worship and wandering. We listened to songs of praise and prayers of grief. We considered wisdom for ordinary days and questions that do not yield easy answers. Through the prophets, we heard God confront injustice, call His people to return to Him, and speak hope into the pain of exile. We saw a people return home and begin the difficult work of rebuilding.
When we reached Malachi, the call to covenant faithfulness remained urgent. God’s people were called to remember His instruction and turn toward Him, even as He promised to send a messenger to prepare the way before Him. Malachi leaves us with a call to live faithfully in the present and a promise that directs our hope toward what God would do.
These books give us much to carry into our own lives. They teach us to remember God’s works, take His words seriously, and care about the things He cares about. They give us language for gratitude, repentance, sorrow, and hope. We will return to them with questions still to explore and wisdom still to receive.
In Volume 2, we will follow this same unfolding story into the New Testament. We will see how the Scriptures we have explored help us understand King Jesus: His words and actions, His cross and resurrection, and His reign. We will meet those who followed Him and consider how His good news shaped their worship, their relationships, and their life together.
Our allegiance to King Jesus grows in response to His grace. The King who calls us to follow Him is the One who gave Himself for us and rose to bring us life. As we trust Him, we learn to receive His teaching and let His ways shape how we live and love.
For encouragement along the way, we can also continue our study and reflection at TuesdaysWithTony.com. The readings and videos there can accompany us as we explore Scripture and put what we learn into practice.
Thank you for sharing this journey. As we close this volume, may God’s faithfulness steady our hope, deepen our worship, and strengthen our allegiance to King Jesus.
