We can find an answer in seconds and carry entire libraries in our pockets.
But information is not the same thing as wisdom.
Information shows us our options. Wisdom helps us know whether to speak, remain silent, act, wait, confront, or forgive.
That is why Proverbs still understands us. Technology has changed, but the human heart has not. We can be educated and still be too proud to listen. We can know the right path and still choose anger, desire, or convenience.
Proverbs chapter one, verse seven says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Wisdom does not begin with trusting ourselves more. It begins with reverent submission to God—recognizing that we are not God and trusting His judgment above our own.
Proverbs reveals wisdom by how we respond when God’s instruction challenges us. Do we accept correction or become defensive? Do we restrain our words or insist on having the last one? Do we seek counsel or assume our judgment is enough?
Proverbs asks a deeper question than, “How much do we know?”
It asks, “What kind of people are we becoming?”
Wisdom begins when we fear the LORD enough to listen.
