We can know Jesus' teaching about forgiveness and still rehearse an old injury. We can hear Him tell us to trust the Father and still let tomorrow's worries govern today's choices. Matthew brings that gap into view through two builders. Both hear Jesus' words. What happens next reveals the difference.

At the end of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus describes one man who hears and acts, and another who hears without doing. When the storm comes, the houses do not stand alike. Matthew, chapter seven, verses twenty-four through twenty-seven. The question reaches beyond how much teaching we recognize. Will we entrust our choices to the One who speaks? Jesus has come to save His people from their sins. Following Him grows from the rescue He gives.

We may already know the next faithful step. Perhaps it is admitting an injury we caused, seeking reconciliation, or receiving help with a worry we cannot carry alone. We do not purchase His mercy by taking that step. We respond to the Savior we are learning to trust. What will we do with what we hear?
