Have we ever wondered whether faithfulness is worth it when people who disregard God seem to be doing better? We keep our commitments, try to do what is right, and still face disappointment. Before long, we may begin measuring obedience by the advantage it brings us.

Malachi heard that conclusion among God’s people. Some said serving Him was useless. Then the book turns toward another group: people who feared the Lord and spoke with one another. Malachi, chapter three, verse sixteen, tells us, “The LORD paid attention and heard them.” Their faithfulness had not escaped His notice.

That does not promise that every difficulty will disappear or that obedience will make us wealthy. It tells us that visible success cannot measure the worth of serving God. He knows those who belong to Him, and His promised justice gives us reason to persevere. Through King Jesus, we can keep trusting the God whose mercy calls us into faithful living. What good have we been tempted to abandon because it seemed unnoticed? We can take the next faithful step knowing that God hears.
