Some days, we would gladly take another crowded calendar if it meant hearing a loved one’s voice again. The errands, the interruptions, even the conversation we once wished would hurry along can become the very things we miss. Grief can teach us how precious an ordinary day was while we were living it.
The hope Jesus gives us reaches into that ache. He rose from the dead, and those who belong to Him will be raised at His coming. We can trust Him with the people who have died in Him. We can miss them deeply and still hold to His promise. Our tears do not cancel our hope.
That hope can also help us love the people before us today. A child needs our attention. Someone needs a patient answer or a listening ear. A relationship may need a prayerful, faithful next step. We cannot repair every loss, but we can bring our grief to Jesus and receive the good He gives us in this day. What ordinary moment before you deserves a little more care?
Our longing for the people we miss can draw us more deeply into the hope of being home with the Lord.
