Spiritual danger may not begin when you fall again. It may begin when you start protecting the fall. There is a difference between struggling with sin and sheltering it. When you struggle, you hate the sin, confess it, seek help, and get back up fighting. You may be weak, but your allegiance remains with Jesus because you are still resisting.

Sheltering is different. You minimize, rename, justify, or blame. You admit enough to sound honest while guarding the part you want untouched. David and Saul said, “I have sinned,” but what they wanted next revealed their hearts. Saul wanted his honor protected. David wanted a clean heart. The question is not only, “How hard is this battle?” It is, “Which side am I fighting for?” Jesus did not bear sin’s debt so we could build safer hiding places.

His mercy makes it possible to tell the truth, accept responsibility, turn, and bring every hidden part of life under His rule. Repentance is not merely stopping because we were caught. It is choosing Christ’s rule because we belong to Him. Maybe today is not about proving you never struggle, but asking whether you are still resisting what does not belong to Jesus.
