We may believe that Jesus is Lord and still resist His direction. We agree with His teaching about love, yet wait for someone else to make the first move after a difficult conversation. What does our confession mean when obedience asks us to surrender something we want?

The New Testament brings the story of faith to the crucified, risen, and reigning Jesus. His ascension leads to His enthronement at the Father’s right hand. The Savior we trust has authority over the lives He has redeemed. Faith includes entrusting ourselves to Him and giving Him our allegiance.

That response grows from grace. We cannot earn His mercy. We receive it and learn to live as His people. If we have hurt a brother or sister, allegiance may begin with acknowledging our wrong and seeking reconciliation. The response may disappoint us, but Jesus still has authority over the way we treat one another. Where do we need to take that next faithful step? Calling Him Lord reaches into the choice before us.
