What if you never see the ending you have been waiting for? Genesis begins with creation, but it closes with a coffin in Egypt. Joseph has helped preserve his family through famine. Yet the land God promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob still lies ahead. Joseph dies before the family reaches it.

His instructions about his bones look beyond his own lifetime. He trusts that God will bring his people out of Egypt. That confidence does not erase the harm Joseph endured. His brothers sold him into slavery, and he suffered unjustly. Later, with power to retaliate, Joseph provides for them. God’s faithfulness gives this wounded family a future, and Joseph acts faithfully within the part of the story entrusted to him.

We may also be waiting for something we cannot bring about ourselves. Joseph’s story does not let us explain every painful event. It does invite us to trust God and carry out today’s responsibilities. We can tell the truth, repair harm we have caused, and serve someone who needs our help. Faithfulness does not have to wait until the story feels complete.
