Have we ever stayed away from God because we felt too ashamed to come near? We tell ourselves we will pray when we have done better, return when we feel stronger, or seek mercy when we have somehow become worthy of it. In Zechariah’s vision, even the high priest stands in filthy garments. His position cannot hide his need.
But Joshua does not clean himself before he is received. God rebukes the accuser, and the filthy garments are removed. Clean clothing is given to him. The vision explains that his iniquity has been taken away. Mercy reaches the man who cannot make himself clean. Then comes the call to walk faithfully in the life restored to him.
That order matters for us. Through Jesus, forgiveness opens the way for renewed service. We can confess what is wrong and receive mercy without pretending our failures are harmless. What shame have we allowed to keep us from returning? Our failures need not become the place where our story stops.
We can come seeking the mercy that calls us into a changed life. Subscribe for daily Shorts like this, and you can watch the full message on Zechariah, linked below, to go deeper.
